The Pack
function, society, & order
The Pack is set up much like an actual wolf pack is. There are various members who hold positions of dominant or submissive and each play a role in the community. The Pack is essentially a community or family, they share close bonds with one another and work as a team under a leader, The Alpha, who guides them. They aren't necessarily all related, but they function similarly to a family in that sense.
The Alpha
A dominant who displays the most power within the Pack. Essentially the strongest and wisest member who has proved himself worthy of the position through battle or through the succession of the position from the former Alpha. The position is not necessarily taken through bloodshed, but it is an acceptable form for the transfer of power. In order to gain this position, one must challenge the current Alpha and prove that they are the stronger and more dominant of the two. The position of Alpha goes to the male, though his mate would also serve in equal regard.
The Pack is made up of wolves who are dominant and submissive. The personality of the werewolf in human form is pretty much the same to their wolf form. So if they are a shy and non-confrontational person, they would very likely become a submissive wolf. As a Werewolf they have the strength to defend themselves, but as a submissive their wolf doesn't go straight to violence as a Dominant would. They don't hunger for flesh and blood as much, but if they starve themselves they become erratic. They don't have to be sweet, but there is a degree of weakness in confidence. They are subdued far easier and controlled as well.
Those who are more aggressive or even more forthright in their personality will stand forth as dominants. It doesn't meant you're angry all the time, or that you're always pushing people around, but you have presence and you show a degree of leadership in your own right or at least the ability to act upon requests given to you that require stability and/or focus. Dominants know how to take on physical violence and so they appear to be physically stronger than a submissive. They can help to calm submissives down and maintain a level of calm.
The Omega
The Omega is pretty much the person or wolf who has no rank within the Pack and yet is an important part. In a real pack they rank the lowest, however in a Werewolf Pack they are neither submissive or dominant. The Omega serves as something of a scapegoat to other members of the Pack, they vent out frustrations to whoever The Omega might be, sometimes physically, other times mentally. The magic in this is that the Omega naturally omits a sort of soothing emotional inner wolf guiding. All Omega Werewolves have empathy and most can use it to make other wolves feel a certain way. The position can be taken by male or female, it doesn't matter. Not all packs have an Omega position.
Body Language
when in wolf form, how to speak
When in their wolf form, they have to learn how to communicate through body language, similarly to the way humans do. Your actions speak just as loud as your words. If you go to this link, you will find a list of various ways that wolves express their emotion through their physical behavior.
